Where are we

Find us at the Thorndon Farmers Market every Saturday in St Paul's Cathedral carpark from 8:30am - 12:30pm. From January 2019 onwards we will be at the Harbourside Market close to Te Papa fortnightly/every 2 weeks. We also sell Shortbread and South African Rusks to our stockists On Trays and Garth Eddy's coffee cart (on our home page). Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Our Story

Germany is to blame.  If it wasn't for her teenage daughter's upcoming school trip to Germany, a mother who loved to bake, create and wear a sparkly tiara would never have unleashed the addictive buttery empire of goodness also known as the Regal Shortbread Company. 

It all started one afternoon in a kitchen in Whitby as Anita (aka Queen of Quirk) tried to think of ways to raise funds that would not kill her regal spirit. Playing to her strengths (creating beautiful baked things that her loyal subjects loved to devour) she came up with the idea of selling home baked shortbread to the unsuspecting neighbourhood. ​It soon became apparent that the people wanted more. And more. And more.'Let them eat shortbread,' she declared while polishing her tiara and grooming her unicorn, 'and let them have different flavours to choose from!".

Hence, the Regal Shortbread empire was born. With six different flavours, each with its own patron and royal pedigree it brought pure buttery bliss to the world. And as the empire grew, so did the demand. Once again, the Queen listened  and while the divine treats were once the privilege of only a select few, it can now be ordered online by all the subjects of the land.

Shipping - proudly Wellington

I produce hand crafted baked goods fit for me, The Grand Duchess of Shortbread and you, my fellow New Zealanders. I love all the people of the land but because I have a soft spot for Wellingtonians, I offer free deliveries* for orders over $20 in Wellington, and a $5 delivery charge if it is below $20. For the rest of you in wider New Zealand, I can arrange postage to you for $10. To soften the blow I offer free postage for orders over $50 NZ wide** ***.

We deliver on Thursdays and Saturdays, and we will contact you to discuss a drop off time that suits both parties. 

*This includes the Wellington Area, as far up as Plimmerton on the East Coast, or Silverstream in the Hutt. See this map for more information on our shipping zones.
