The Regal Shortbread Co. Ltd.

Anita A.K.A The Grand Duchess of shortbread

I birthed my business baby right here in Porirua in 2015 as a response to an announcement from my teenage daughter that she was going on a German Exchange trip (as they do).

A few months later, the demand grew, and I started sharing my buttery shortbread with soon-to-be loyal royals.

Sometime in my first year, one of my loyalist royals asked me to make some gingernuts for her. I did, she liked them, but they were not perfect yet. Her helpful feedback sent me back to the kitchen a few more times until I had created a custom-made gingernut to her particular preferences. Her taste buds were very clever as I've struggled to keep up with the demand since I started making them.

I recently entered them into the 2022 NZ Artisan Award and received a bronze! This award meant so much to me. To gain recognition after making tens of thousands of gingernuts is fuel for my passion for making the most delightful handmade biscuitry imaginable.

These biscuits are so yummy that I made them the star of The Regal Shortbread Co. gift boxes.
